Eon and RWE have today completed the £696 million sale of their nuclear joint venture Horizon to Japanese engineering company and reactor vendor Hitachi.
Hitachi now owns sites at Wylfa in Anglesey, north Wales and Oldbury in Gloucestershire and plans to build two or three 1,300 MW nuclear power plants at each.
The Japanese firm will now negotiate with UK regulators to obtain approval to use Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) technology under the UK’s Generic Design Assessment process.
