Horizon Nuclear Power appoints new business development director

Horizon Nuclear Power has appointed David Stearns as business development director to drive forward the project's progress.

Horizon Nuclear Power’s chief operating officer Alan Raymant said Stearns appointment will “accelerate” the development of the flagship project Wylfa Newydd in Wales, which if built will have a minimum generating capacity of 2.7 GW.

Stearns primary mission in his new role will be to complete the development and achieve financial close of Wylfa Newydd, and to lead the development of Horizon’s business strategy and ensure successful progression of the Oldbury project. He will also be responsible for negotiating key commercial agreements.

Stearns joins Horizon Nuclear Power with over 20 years of project financing power developments, most recently from Portland Advisors where he was senior advisor for energy and nuclear power.

He has also held senior power and project finance roles at Citigroup and Credit Agricole before being appointed to lead HSBC’s European power project finance team and the London-based Nuclear Working Group.

Horizon’s chief operating officer Alan Raymant said: “We’re delighted that David is joining Horizon at this key time in our development. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that further strengthens our team. He has an excellent track record in energy finance and brings an additional set of mission-critical strengths to an already formidable leadership.”
