Jeremy Hunt has unveiled a windfall profits tax on low-carbon generators, extended universal support for household energy bills and announced £6 billion of new investment in energy efficiency in the next Parliament. The Electricity Generator Levy will be set at a rate of 45% and will apply to revenues in excess of £75/MWh. The chancellor of the exchequer also gave the go-ahead to the Sizewell C nuclear project, saying contracts will be signed in the "coming weeks".
