Key hires made to drive new Severn Trent strategy

Severn Trent Water has made two new leadership appointments in order to drive a “greater customer and commercial focus”, the company said.

The water company has hired Sarah Bentley to join as chief customer officer and Helen Miles to take up the role of new group commercial officer.

Bentley will take charge of customer care, group technology and business transformation, which are three areas the company consider “inextricably linked” as part of satisfying customer behavior and meeting their needs.

“Responding quickly to changing customer expectations – as well as the rapid adoption of digital technologies like apps and social media – requires companies to re-think their traditional operating models, including their approach to technology,” Bentley said.

Meanwhile Miles will own procurement, transport, supply chain and contract management, with her main focus to be on driving cost saving efficiencies for the company, Severn Trent said.

“[T]here’s a lot for me to do to make the financial efficiencies we need, as well as ensuring we’re spending our customers’ money wisely. In addition, I’m looking forward to exploring new opportunities and getting to know our suppliers,” Miles added.

Bentley joins Severnt Trent from consultancy Accenture while Miles previously served as chief financial officer of Homeserve.

Both Miles and Bentley have already taken up their new roles.
