Market with less switching may need tougher regulation

Ofgem chief executive Jonathan Brearley has told MPs tougher regulation may needed to protect customers in an energy retail market where there can be less reliance on switching to drive down prices and improve performance. Giving evidence to the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee on Tuesday (8 February), Brearley also accepted that the regulator could have acted sooner to make the sector more resilient to shocks.
