Michael Fallon has replaced John Hayes as the energy minister following a mini reshuffle by the prime minister.
Hayes will leave the Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) to become a political and parliamentary adviser to David Cameron.
Conservative MP Fallon will take over the energy brief from Hayes, and will be tasked with guiding the Energy Bill through the House of Commons as it enters the report stage after the political recess.
The in-coming energy minister is also expected to retain his brief at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), where he is the Business and Enterprise minister.
A DECC spokeswoman said:“As Number 10 has announced, John Hayes MP is to leave Decc to take up a new role as minister without portfolio (Minister of State).
“Rt Hon Michael Fallon MP is to become energy minister, in addition to his current role as a minister of state at BIS.
“We will be able to confirm further details about the new appointment later today.”
