Biomass fuel supplier Stobart Energy has announced it has appointed a new chief executive amidst a series of changes to its board.

Richard Jenkins will take over from 1 June. Jenkins has spent the last three years managing the Greater Manchester Waste contract, initially for Viridor and most recently for Suez.

The new chief executive will be joined by new finance director Gareth Aylward who began work on 18 May. Aylward joined from Irish dairy company Ornua Co-operative Limited where he worked in a number of senior finance roles in its Irish, Chinese and UK businesses.

He has significant experience in mergers and acquisitions which Stobart hopes will support its growth ambitions.

Alan Whitrow, who joined the business in June 2016, will formally be appointed to the board as operations director. Neil Spencer will come on board as commercial director.

Ben Whawell, outgoing Stobart Energy chief, said: “It has been a pleasure to be involved in the significant success of Stobart Group since 2004 and to have had the opportunity to run the energy division for the last four years. I am very proud of what we have achieved.

“The next phase of growth is extremely exciting and a real opportunity for Richard and his new team to develop and fulfil their ambitions. I wish him and everyone else at Stobart Energy all the very best for the future.”

South Staffs Water and Cambridge Water

Elsewhere in the sector, former Pennon Group executive director Andy Willicott has joined South Staffs and Cambridge Water as managing director.

Willicott, whose previous roles include transformation director at Bristol Water and chief operating officer for Sydney Water, replaces Phil Newland, who has been appointed as group chief executive at parent company, South Staffordshire.

Chairman Chris Smith said:  “I’m very pleased to welcome Andy Willicott as our new MD, bringing with him a wealth of experience in the industry both nationally and internationally. In the midst of these difficult times, I know that South Staffs Water and Cambridge Water will flourish.”

Willicott said: “It’s an extraordinary time to join a new organisation, while social distancing and working from home is the new normal. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and helping South Staffs Water and Cambridge Water deliver a high-quality service for customers.”
