Two utility companies today have announced senior appointments.

Yu Group, a corporate utility company, has announced a new chairman will replace incumbent Ralph Cohen.

Meanwhile Wiltshire-based challenger energy supplier Good Energy has appointed a new chief financial officer.

Yu Group

Yu Group has announced chairman Ralph Cohen is to step down, with Robin Paynter Bryant coming in as his replacement.

Paynter Bryant has more than 30 years’ experience working for a number of financial institutions in London.

He has a background in regulation, compliance and corporate governance and advised companies such as Severn Trent. From 2012 to 2016 he was a non-executive director of water regulator Ofwat.

Although Paynter Bryant is joining with immediate effect, Yu Group said there was no departure date set for Cohen, who will leave following a transition period.

Meanwhile Tony Perkins joins the board as a senior independent non-executive director.

Perkins has had a long career at accountants BDO where he was appointed a partner in 1990, having joined in 1980. He has experience in financial, governance and risk management and has advised on corporate strategy, transactions and expansion of businesses in the UK and overseas.

He has held senior management positions at BDO as a member of the firm’s leadership team including head of its London operations and national head of audit.

Bobby Kalar, chief executive of Yu Group, said: “Strengthening the board as the group embarks on its renewed phase of development is a strategic move building on the rapid maturity of the business over the past few years, and to further steer us to secure growth opportunities going forward.”

Good Energy

Green energy supplier Good Energy has announced the appointment of a new chief financial officer and executive director to the board.

Rupert Sanderson has been promoted to the board after joining the company in February 2017 and being appointed finance director the following January. His previous roles include senior financial and commercial positions at Centrica, British Gas, Serco and Avis Europe.

Sanderson began his career as an accountant for PwC and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Speaking of the appointment Juliet Davenport, founder and chief executive of Good Energy, said: “2020 will be another crucial year for Good Energy, as we deliver new propositions to match the energy transition and address the climate emergency.

“Rupert is a proven strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to be agile, adapt and lead in this evolving market. It is great to kick off 2020 with his skills applied in a broader role where he can have more positive impact.”
