National Grid appoints new executive director

National Grid has announced Nicola Shaw will join the board as UK executive director by the end of the year.

The news follows the appointment of a new chief executive for National Grid, John Pettigrew, in November 2015 who was previously in the role of executive director.

Shaw is director of Swedish electricity distribution company Ellevio AB and has been the chief executive of High Speed 1, where she managed the transition from the construction phase into a long-term business and was recently asked to report to the UK government on the future structure and financing of Network Rail.

National Grid chairman Peter Gershon said: “The board is delighted to appoint Nicola Shaw to lead our UK business following John Pettigrew’s appointment as [chief executive]. Nicola has a strong track-record in leading important infrastructure businesses and in working with the UK government and Regulators.

“Her broad experience makes her ideally placed to help National Grid deliver value for our customers today and into the future.”

Shaw is expected to join in the third quarter of 2016.
