National grid is investing nearly £6million on refurbishing the overhead power line that runs across the Wirral.
Engineers will be replacing the fittings that connect the wires to the 47 pylons, which link Birkenhead and Capenhurst.
Work has already started and is expected to be completed in early December.
National Grid will return to the Wirral in 2013, in partnership with Scottish Power, when construction starts on the Western Cable link, which will follow a similar route to the overhead power lines in some places.
The cable is part of a £1billion project to help bring renewable energy from Scotland to homes and businesses in England and Wales.
