Nearly 2,000 Green Deal assessments have been completed since the government's flagship energy efficiency scheme was launched at the end of January.

Figures released by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) today show that 1,803 assessments have been completed, with 1,729 of those taking place last month.

Energy secretary Ed Davey told MPs at oral questions this morning this represented “an excellent start” to the programme and that the government was encouraged by the early adoption rates.

Decc’s figures also show the 77 Green Deal assessor organisations and 619 advisers they employ have been accredited to provide Green Deal services.

The department also revealed that more than £26.9 million worth of contracts have been traded through the Energy Company Obligation brokerage system.

This allows Green Deal providers to anonymously sell lots of future energy efficiency work to energy companies at auctions every two weeks.
