The Environment Agency (EA) has appointed a new chief executive to replace Paul Leinster who left on Friday after 17 years with the agency.
Sir James Bevan, currently the UK’s High Commission to India, will step into Leinster’s shoes at the end of November.
“Sir James will lead the organisation with passion, energy and a clear commitment to continue the great work it does to protect and improve the environment and make it a better place for people and wildlife,” said chairman Sir Philip Dilley.
Bevan said he looks forward to playing his part in protecting the environment whilst promoting growth, which he described as “one of the biggest challenges of our time”.
The EA’s current chief executive director for flood risk management, David Rooke, will act as chief executive until Bevan takes up his new role.
