New energy service firm plans to undercut British Gas

A new residential energy service platform is being launched to offer consumers cheap deals on energy-saving home improvements.

Home Tree claims to offer a fixed price for boiler installations through local installers which is 35 per cent cheaper than the same install with British Gas.

The platform has accused some suppliers of “ripping home-owners off” on energy services for consumers who want to reduce their bills.

Home Tree chief executive Simon Phelan said: “Boilers account for about 55 per cent of what consumers spend in a year on energy bills, so an efficient boiler makes a big difference.

“We want customers to finally take back their power over their utility bills and that’s why we strive to help consumers understand what type of system is right for their home in the most hassle free-way possible, and ensure that the price offered is great value.”

The company also has plans to helps homeowners install and finance products which will reduce their reliance on the grid and live more sustainably. Home Tree said that new technology and data is “increasingly making it possible for homeowners to turn their homes into mini-power plants”.

“HomeTree is truly a labour of love… Our position as a venture-backed start-up, rather than a slow-moving incumbent, enables us to be agile and pro-active in our approach to transforming the energy market,” Phelan added.
