RWE Npower's latest combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) is expected to complete commissioning and be fully operational within the next two weeks.
The new 2,160MW power station in Pembroke will be handed over to the operator from Alstom, the construction team, by early September. The last of the five 440 MW power generation units is about to be signed off.
The plant was built on the site of a previously demolished oil-fired power station, and has already been exporting power to the National Grid as the previous four turbines have already been commissioned.
A RWE spokesperson said: “The commissioning process is all about making sure the power station is handed over to the operator and making sure it has proven itself for the final sign off.
“We’re technically making sure the I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed.”
