Northern Gas Networks (NGN) has awarded 11 projects a combined total of £50,000 through its Community Promises Fund to support communities across the north of England.
The 11 projects aim to end fuel poverty, educate on environmental energy efficiency, raise awareness of carbon monoxide, and encourage the study of STEM subjects.
The chosen projects, selected by a panel of NGN stakeholders, will receive grants of between £1,000 and £10,000.
The winning projects will also be invited to attend networking events in January where they will meet other organisations, share best practice and receive support from the NGN team.
NGN’s head of social strategy Tom Bell said: “ The diversity of applications has been fantastic to see and while we can’t award money to all applicants, I’m very much looking forward to working with the successful organisations on their exciting projects.”
Unsuccessful applicants will be invited to a workshop to discuss how NGN may be able to work with them in the future.
Nicola Jeavons of National Energy Action said: “Community groups and other local organisations play a vital role in helping to identify and assist those who are struggling to heat their homes affordably.
“The Community Promises Fund will support third sector organisations and community groups to bring real change through local action.
“The 11 successful applications demonstrate a variety of innovative, sustainable initiatives which will help encourage behavioural changes through raising awareness of energy efficiency and will help to address the challenges associated with fuel poverty in their community.”
