Northern Gas Networks (NGN) is working in partnership to help the fuel poor connect to gas heating and cut their fuel bills in 2016.
The gas distribution company is working with community interest company YES Energy Solutions to implement a range of community gas connection projects offering an affordable switching service using a range of blended funding.
Vulnerable residents will benefit from subsidised gas connections and central heating installations using a range of grants.
The partnership is mainly targeting residents currently using old and inefficient electric storage heaters as their primary heating source.
NGN said the projects are currently in the development stage but the partnership, formed in October, has already identified several target areas and engagement plans with householders during 2016 are underway.
YES Energy Solutions has experience in assisting vulnerable residents and sourcing additional support through its management of Southern Gas Networks Help to Heat programme in Scotland and the South East since 2012.
