Community groups, local authorities and charities are being invited to bid for a £100,000 pot to improve water quality in Northern Ireland.
Small projects to improve the local water environment are eligible for awards of up to £10,000 each.
NI environment minister Alex Attwood said he wanted to tap into community spirit and motivate people of all ages to improve water locally.
“Water is obviously one of our key natural assets in Northern Ireland,” he said. “Our built and natural heritage will be the biggest part of future increases in tourist numbers and spend. Cleaner, less polluted rivers and waterways will have a key part to play in that.”
Bold laws would also be needed to protect the environment, Attwood added.
