Theft of metal including manhole covers and sewage treatment equipment cost Northern Ireland Water £95,000 last year.
More than £45,000 of the cost was to repair of replace the damaged or stolen items, while a further £50,000 was spent to secure copper protection earthing materials in concrete.
That bill for replacing stolen property, incurred between July 2011 and June 2012, was largely footed by NI taxpayers.
The utility is working with the police and other victims and partners on preventative measures.
