Severn Trent has reassured customers that it does not expect to enforce a hosepipe ban this year despite Britain having had one of the warmest Junes since 1910, when the records began.
The company says its water resources are in a secure position with July average UK temperatures set to be warmer than average for the seventh month in a row.
Marcus O’Kane, water resources strategy manager at Severn Trent, said: “It may have been warm over the last few months, but it’s also been raining and this has kept our water resources in good supply. The Severn Trent region is supplied with a mixture of reservoir, groundwater and river water sources, all of which are in a healthy state with our reservoirs currently over 90 per cent full on average.”
The water company has warned its customers that the weather is easily changeable and it can be hard to forecast exactly when the next drought will come.
Severn Trent says educating customers on water efficiency is vital for avoiding future hosepipe bans.
The response has been good, according to Severn Trent, with homes in the Midlands now some of the most water efficient in the UK.
