Octopus Energy has announced that chargepoint operator Engenie has joined its Electric Juice billing network.
Currently there is no standardised method of paying for electric vehicle (EV) charging, with each network having its own card or app. This is seen as a major barrier to EV adoption.
Electric Juice is a consolidated network of charge point providers which allows drivers to use multiple charge points and pay with a single monthly bill, whether they are Octopus customers or not. The deal will see Engenie’s 100 rapid charging locations, as well as London’s first rapid charging hub, folded into the network.
Zoisa Walton from Electric Juice said: “Thanks to this partnership with Engenie, users of the Electric Juice network can now benefit from rapid chargers across the country and a rapid charging hub in London, in addition to lamppost charging already provided by the Char.gy network. All this makes it easier than ever to pay for all your charges with one simple bill.
“Each time a partner joins the network we get a step closer to creating the effortless charging system that current EV drivers want, potential EV drivers need and the decarbonisation of our roads demands.”
Ian Johnston, chief executive of Engenie, said: “Whilst Engenie will always offer tap-and-go payment on our rapid chargers, connecting our network to electric juice gives customers the unique and innovative added benefit of being able to pay for their charging on their home electricity bill.
“We believe this is a crucial step towards providing a totally seamless experience for EV drivers that allows them to choose the best way for them to access and pay for charging.”
Earlier this year, Engenie announced that it would be renamed Osprey this coming Autumn.
