Octopus Energy to rent out Nest thermostats to customers

Independent energy supplier Octopus Energy has announced it will offer its customers a Nest thermostat as a monthly rental.

Octopus will be the first utility to allow consumers to rent the Nest Learning Thermostat for £6.99 per month, in a bid to help them save energy and money.

The idea behind the thermostat is that it ‘learns’ a customer’s preferred temperature and programmes itself to heat the home at certain times.

Octopus founder Greg Jackson said: “Octopus Energy is dedicated to delivering the best experience to customers, taking every aspect of our service seriously, from offering the best prices on energy to fast, effective customer care.

“By offering our customers access to intelligent technology, such as the Nest Learning Thermostat, we are not only helping people get the best deal on their energy needs, but also give them control of their usage.”

Octopus Energy currently offers customers fixed and variable tariffs to deliver at least 50 per cent of energy through renewable sources, plus a green tariff from 100 per cent renewable electricity and a carbon offset on the gas burned in the home.
