Ofgem has approved a proposal to allow National Grid to offer availability payments for gas consumers that are willing to reduce their usage when the transmission network is under stress. The decision follows the failure of the existing flexibility mechanism to attract any offers the last time National Grid sought to utilise it during the Beast from the East in 2018.
