Ofgem has proposed an amendment to the Smart Meter Installation Code of Practice (SMICoP) requiring suppliers to publish the results of the independent customers surveys undertaken to confirm their compliance.
Under the terms of the code, suppliers fitting smart meters at a high enough rate must commission an independent survey of a sample of customers on their experiences during the installation process.
At the moment, the results are submitted to the SMICoP Governance Board but are not revealed publicly. Ofgem is hoping to change that starting in early 2020.
The regulator said this would give sufficient time for the necessary processes to be implemented and for data quality issues to be resolved. It has called for feedback on the proposals, including how much of the data should be published, in what location and how often.
The deadline for responses is 30 August.
