Ofgem has launched an investigation into two independent business energy suppliers following a high level of customer complaints and a referral by Citizens Advice.
BES Commercial Electricity, an electricity supplier, and Business Energy Solutions, a gas supplier, will both be investigated by the regulator over concerns they may be misleading customers, Ofgem said.
Both companies’ practices will be investigated to ensure they are trading in a transparent and fair manner and have not provided customers with inaccurate and misleading information, particularly in reference to their handling of deemed contracts and electricity meter readings.
A statement from BES Utilities, the parent company of BES Commercial Electricity and Business Energy Solutions, said: “We will continue to provide Ofgem with our full co-operation, as we have done over recent months, and hope that this matter can be resolved as soon as possible.”
“As a smaller, independent supplier, over the last ten years we have had to find our own way in terms of understanding complex legislation, and, unlike the majority of our larger competitors, this is the first time any investigation has taken place into our processes.”
“We are never complacent and welcome any feedback from the regulator as how to we can improve the service we provide, and we intend to use this to strengthen our procedures.”
