Ofwat plans 46 job losses as budget falls by one-third

Ofwat is set to shed 46 jobs at it enacts a 30 per cent budget cut.

The water regulator has issued a 30-day consultation on its plans to restructure its workforce, creating six “resource pools”. Under the consultation, there would be 46 fewer posts than in the current structure.

Ofwat launched a voluntary exit plan earlier this year in a bid to make government-mandated savings. 11 people left the regulator in the first phase, and a further 32 are currently in negotiations to leave. These 32 would count towards the overall reduction of 46, though Ofwat acknowledged that compulsory redundancies may be necessary in addition.

The regulator is planning limited recruitment this year and next as and when funding becomes available to bring “additional skills and experience” to the organisation.

The consultation closes on 15 July. If compulsory redundancies are necessary, the selection process will be run over the summer.
