On the Move: CCW, Ofgem, Yorkshire Water

In the latest round up of appointments, CCW and Yorkshire Water have both welcomed new board members while Steve Steer has stepped down from his role at Ofgem.

CCW, the water watchdog, has announced four new non-executive directors have been appointed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) as part of CCW’s work to transform how it operates.

Lisa Tennant, Jeff Halliwell, Rachel Onikosi and Bev Keogh all began their new roles with the consumer body on 1 June.

Rachel Onikosi is a London councillor with responsibility for environmental services and has previously been a CCW consumer advocate.

Lisa Tennant brings experience in consumer affairs, digital transformation and regulation as well as equality, diversity and inclusion.

Jeff Halliwell has a background in consumer-facing businesses as a chief executive and chairs the customer engagement group for Electricity North West.

Bev Keogh has spent 35 years in the regulated utility sectors including SSE, Thames, Welsh Water, South East Water and Electricity North West in operational engineering, customer experience and business assurance roles.

Chair Robert Light said outgoing board members Tony Redmond, Julie Hill, Bernard Crump and David Heath provided constructive challenge as consumer champions.

In the energy sector, Steven Steer will leave his role as head of data at Ofgem after five years with the regulator. Steer will take a role at engineering consultancy Zuhlke digitalising services across sectors.

He told Utility Week: “In my years at Ofgem I’ve created the regulator’s data and digitalisation strategy, established modern data regulations and cleared the path so data practitioners are free to unleash their talents on the sector. Redirecting the energy sector’s data governance has taken a lot of stubborness and preaching. It’s nice to talk about how things should be, to open eyes and to enable people, but now is the time for me to switch to delivery mode.”

Elsewhere, Yorkshire Water has appointed Vanda Murray to its board as non-executive director and chair designate from July. She succeeds Anthony Rabin who has held the position since 2016. Murray is a non-executive director at Manchester Airport where she chairs the remuneration and corporate social responsibility committees.
