One Minute Intervew: Chris Bielby, director of new business, Scotia Gas Networks

Career history: Worked at Centrica/British Gas until 2009, then Connaught Group, NAPIT Group and Fountains Group before joining Scotia Gas Networks in 2011. A fellow and past president of IGEM and chairman of the Gas Industry Safety Group, Gas Task Group and Gas Safety Trust.

What was your first job?

Working on a ice cream van after school and at weekends.

What are the best and worst parts of your job?

Best: working with a great team of people at Scotia Gas Networks. Worst: the three-hour commute.

What’s your dream job and why?

To work with the Formula 1 teams over one season to ensure that best practice was shared across the teams. This, of course, would mean attending all the races around the world.

What’s your most treasured possession?

The plate and eight screws that held together my tibia and fibia following a fracture I got playing football.

Where did you last go on holiday?

Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

In the Hollywood film of your life, who would play you?

Steve McQueen as he was in The Great Escape.

Reveal something about yourself not many people know.

I had meetings with the Rolling Stones, David Hockney, David Attenborough and Neil Armstrong to do with the set-up of the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford in 1982/83.

What album is currently in your car CD player?

Dave Matthews Band’s Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King, on which the best track is You & Me.

What’s your favourite film and TV programme?

My favourite film is Ronin for the car chase and my favourite TV programme is Soccer AM.

What quote or saying do you most overuse?

“Happy people, happy customers, happy numbers (£).”

If you ruled the world, what would you do first?

Eradicate wars. And get a crack team of research scientists working on a carbon-neutral Grand Prix.

What’s your favourite joke?

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Biggish. Biggish who? No, not today thanks.
