One Minute Intervew: Howie, Business Stream

Career history: Howie has always worked for Business Stream, working his way up to being almost the public face of the business.

What are the best and worst parts of your job?

The best is being the poster boy for a customer-focused, ambitious organisation at the forefront of a very exciting market. The downside is having to make sure you’re always smiling. Even mascots have their grumpy days, but you can’t let it show. There’s a lot of pressure on my shoulders.

What’s your dream job and why?

I’m already doing my dream job – helping businesses save water and money – what’s not to like? It’s also appraisal season, so I need to be aware of who might be reading this.

What’s your most treasured possession?

I must confess to being a bit of a gadget nut – I’d struggle to get through a day without my iPod. My current playlist includes Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head; Splish Splash I Was Taking A Bath; and Singing In The Rain. I do love the classics.

In the Hollywood film of your life, who would play you?

I’ve been told I bear more than a passing resemblance to Adam Sandler, and I thought he was very good in The Water Boy. I think we probably share a similar sense of humour, too.

Reveal something about yourself not many people know.

I only learned to swim two years ago.

What album is currently in your car CD player?

I’m quite environmentally minded, so I prefer the bus, but I’ve just picked up an excellent recording of Handel’s Water Music, which I find soothing after a hard week. Good for drowning out the noise on public transport, too.

What’s your favourite film and TV programme?

My favourite film would have to be Splash – I’m a big fan of Daryl Hannah. I don’t watch much TV.

What quote or saying do you most overuse?

“Does anyone have a towel?”

If you ruled the world, what would you do first?

I’d be a generous and benevolent ruler so I could manage a promotion to ruling the universe, then I’d make sure everyone had access to clean water. It’s such a fundamental requirement of life, but it’s taken for granted by so many people.
