Job title
Policy director

Career history
Eleven years working for Rt Hon Margaret Beckett MP, including four years as her special adviser at Defra when she was secretary of state. Six-and-a-half years at Waterwise since setting it up with colleagues.

What was your first job?
Paper round – delivering the Oxford Star (free paper) every Thursday.

What are the best and worst parts of your job?
Best: the team. Worst: not enough hours in the week to follow up on all of the opportunities we spot. And people with more money than us (not difficult) wanting us to do things for free.

What’s your dream job and why?
I love this job and I loved my last one. I like working in the public and third sector – they suit my outlook, which is quite political. I like being part of a team and wouldn’t fancy being self-employed. There – a politician’s answer.

What’s your most treasured possession?
I don’t really own them, but my husband and three children.

Where did you last go on holiday?
Cornwall in August. The new baby was only a few weeks old so we didn’t have the stomach to fly anywhere.

In the Hollywood film of your life, who would play you?
This is the hardest question of all. I suppose Kate Winslet because she’s English and doesn’t stand for any nonsense. She’d need to dye her hair, though.

Reveal something about yourself not many people know.
I can rap in Arabic.

What album is currently in your car CD player?
Lily Allen – It’s Not Me, It’s You.

What’s your favourite film and TV programme?
Gone With the Wind is my favourite film, although we recently saw Burn After Reading and it really made me laugh. TV-wise, I absolutely loved Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, and I enjoyed Sherlock, despite it being a bit bonkers.

What quote or saying do you most overuse?
“Lovely!”

If you ruled the world, what would you do first?
Abolish poverty.

What’s your favourite joke?
The three bears returned from their walk. Daddy Bear said: “Who’s been eating my porridge?” Mummy Bear said: “Who’s been eating my porridge?” Baby Bear said: “Never mind the porridge, who’s nicked the telly?”
