Britain's fleet of opted-out coal-fired plant had a combined total of just over 60,000 hours of running remaining at the end of October 2011, the beginning of the current winter period, Parliament was told last week.

Of the six plant which had their running time capped under the terms of the European Union’s Large Combustion Plant Directive. Eon UK’s Kingsnorth had the least allocation left, some 5,777 hours. However Scottish Power’s four-unit Cockenzie plant only had a combined total of 8,570 hours remaining.

The hours (in brackets) for the other stations were: Didcot (9,680); Ferrybridge (9,416); Ironbridge (11,874); and the four-unit Tilbury station (15,280).
