ORE Catapult appoints Renewable UK chief to its board

The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult has appointed Renewable UK chief executive Hugh McNeal to its board as a non-executive director.

McNeal has held a number of senior low-carbon related roles, including his previous position as director of change at the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

He said: “I am extremely pleased to join ORE Catapult’s board at a critical time in the development of the UK’s offshore wind, wave and tidal energy industries.

“The Catapult has a huge role to play in driving ever closer collaboration between government, industry and academia to ensure that we capture the full benefits from this vital sector.”

ORE Catapult is the UK’s flagship innovation and research centre for offshore wind, wave and tidal energy and chairman Colin Hood said: “Hugh is a very welcome addition to the Catapult’s board, bringing extensive experience of renewable energy policy and working with industry to drive cost reduction, growth and economic benefit from the renewable energy sector.”

Earlier this year, ORE Catapult agreed to collaborate with Spanish research centre Tecnalia to further the development of offshore wind technology.
