Ovo Energy tops customer satisfaction table

Ovo Energy has performed best for customer satisfaction with a record high rating of 96 per cent.

The independent supplier has come top for customer satisfaction of the eight largest suppliers in the UK for the third consecutive year, followed by First Utility with a score of 87 per cent.  

Npower performed worst for the ninth year in a row with a score of 67 per cent, but was the most improved supplier, whilst the remainder of the big six score between 69-79 per cent satisfaction.

The annual figures from comparison site Uswitch found that average customer satisfaction among the largest suppliers has risen by three percentage points from last year to 78 per cent.

Uswitch energy expert Claire Osborne said: “Customer satisfaction with energy suppliers is rising, but the biggest independent providers continue to set the bar ever higher and higher. It’s encouraging to see the big six continue improving, but they’ll need to up their game even further to catch up with the competition.”

In third place with a satisfaction score of 79 per cent, Eon was awarded Large Supplier of the Year for the fifth-year running.

Eon UK managing director residential David Bird said: “We’re delighted to have been voted best of the larger suppliers for customer satisfaction for the fifth year running. This success is testament to all our colleagues who have helped us provide a high level of service which is valued by our customers. I’m very proud that Eon has continued to make significant improvements, this year not only increasing our score for overall satisfaction, but also increasing our rankings for both meter reading and energy efficiency.”

The report also highlights a “continuing gulf” in customer satisfaction between the largest independent providers and the big six. Over eight in ten customers of Ovo and First Utility would recommend their supplier, compared to 57 per cent of customers of the big six.

Ovo Energy received several awards for their customer satisfaction efforts including Most Likely to be Recommended, Value for Money, Billing Services, Energy Efficiency, Meter Services, Online Services and Green Services.
