Ovo Energy has sold its business customer base to multi-service provider Verastar.
Ovo previously provided one business electricity fixed-price plan, called Better Energy, which was made up of 33 per cent renewable electricity as standard. It did not supply gas or offer a 100 per cent green energy plan to its commercial customers.
Verastar chief executive Chris Earle said: “We are delighted to welcome these commercial customers to Verastar. We are confident that they will appreciate the customer experience with us, which simplifies their purchasing and service delivery needs, bringing a growing range of essential business services and offering great value.”
Following the latest acquisition, which was made for an undisclosed sum, Verastar now provides services including electricity, gas, water, fixed and mobile telecommunications, broadband and fibre connectivity, to around 9 per cent of small businesses in the UK.
Subsidiary Clear Business is an independent business-to-business services provider. It specialises in small business customers, providing energy, telecoms and, in the Scottish market, water.
Its water arm, Clear Business Water, was among the first to be granted a water supply and sewerage licence by Ofwat earlier this month. It has been providing business water services in Scotland since 2013 and now has a market share of around 20 per cent.
Last month, Ovo announced that its domestic customer base had grown 47 per cent in the twelve months to June 2016, in its seventh consecutive year of double-figure-growth.
