Portsmouth Water installs PV at treatment works

Portsmouth Water has installed solar photovoltaics at six of its water treatment plants and will use them to power its pumps and treatment processes.

The panels, totalling 300kW of PV capacity, should save the firm at least £4,000 a year in electricity costs. They should also generate income of around £8,000 a year for the company under the feed-in tariff scheme, based on a projected 42,500 kilowatt hours at a rate of 19p/kWh.

“Utility spaces are ideal for solar,” said Solarcentury CEO Derry Newman.
