The Renewable Energy Association (REA) may be set to merge with the Association for Organics Recycling (AfOR).
The move, which would see AfOR become a working group of the REA, depends on a vote by AfOR members.
If the merger is successful, it could suggest a greater focus for the REA in biomass and anaerobic digestion (AD), areas where AfOR has expertise.
AfOR managing director Jeremy Jacobs notified the association’s member this week about the proposals, urging them to support the move and to vote at the Extraordinary General Meeting on September 4.
Mr Jacobs said the move would “provide greater long term security” for both associations, and he added that a newly expanded REA would be able to put more pressure on the government “at the highest level”.
