Around 3.5 million customers have switched to smaller electricity suppliers in 2015, higher than the same period in both 2014 and 2013.
According to the latest Energy UK data 113,780 customers switched their electricity in November, which is above average at 29 per cent of all utility switches for the month.
Chief executive of Energy UK, Lawrence Slade, said: “We have seen a record number of switches so far this year which proves people are engaged with their energy providers and shopping around to find the best deal for them.”
Energy UK added: “The industry and government’s commitment to make switching simpler and quicker for customers has been reflected in the increase in switches this year.”
The numbers come as no surprise to the market after Cornwall Energy announced in September a 50 per cent rise over 2015 in market share for independent energy suppliers – up from 9 per cent last year.
