Renewable Energy Generation (REG) has signed a contract with Juwi Renewable Energies to construct its new 2.6MW solar project at Mendennick, Cornwall.
The contract states Juwi will be responsible for supplying, installing and commissioning the equipment for the solar project. It has also agreed a five-year deal to provide both operations and maintenance services.
Work has already begun on this project, which is due for completion by the end of 2015. Once finished, the Mendennick project is expected to generate a total of 2.7GWh per annum.
REG has developed this project as part of its strategy to increase the 111MW of renewable energy it currently produces to 300MW within three years. They currently generate energy through a combination of wind power, bio-power and solar power.
This project is part of a 132.4MW pipeline and will increase REG’s renewable power generating capacity to 243.6MW, thereby moving them significantly closer to their target. REG’s chief executive, Andrew Whalley said that this would “transform REG’s revenue profile”.
He added: “This in turn will provide us with a strong platform from which we can continue the rollout of our strategy and build REG into one of the UK’s leading independent renewable energy providers.”
