Coronavirus: Regulator ‘like band playing on deck of Titanic’

The chief executives of both Ofgem and Ofwat have indicated they will be flexible over compliance as utilities battle unprecedented challenges from the coronavirus spread. Both gave companies licence to dismiss compliance concerns if doing so protected lifeline services and/ or the vulnerable. However, there are calls for more concrete assurances to convince firms they will not be penalised for necessary actions in the coming weeks.
