Renewable UK announces new chairman

Renewable UK has announced that its new chairman is Julian Brown.

The wind and marine energy trade association has appointed Brown at its board meeting on Tuesday as the replacement Andrew Jamieson.

Brown, who is Areva Wind’s country director for the UK, has served on the board at Renewable UK since June 2012 and has also been chairman of Norstec – an industry led initiative to promote the offshore renewables industry across northern European seas – since June 2013.

Outgoing chairman Jamieson, who has served as chairman since June 2010, stood down from the position due to increasing demands in his role as chief executive of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.

Newly elected chairman Brown said: “Having enjoyed my role on the board over the last 18 months, I’m delighted to take on the role of chairman, to help to guide the industry through the period ahead, including the important challenges of moving to the contracts for difference system and the upcoming general election.

“Working on the board under Andrew Jamieson’s chairmanship has been a great preparation for this, and I would like to pay tribute to his work.”

Maria McCaffery, chief executive of Renewable UK said: “Andrew Jamieson has been a superb chairman, adeptly navigating the industry and association through a period of intense change as he has served as a director for over six and half years and chairman for more than three and a half years.

“The board and I have greatly valued his contribution and leadership, and understand the decision he has had to take as the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult ramps up its activity.

“I am delighted that the board has chosen such an able and energetic successor, and look forward to working with him over such a crucial forthcoming period for the industry.”
