Trade association Renewable UK has expended its membership to allow tidal lagoon companies to join.
Tidal Lagoon Power, the company behind the plans for the Swansea Bay tidal lagoon, has become a member following “extensive discussions” about Renewable UK extending its remit to cover this technology.
Renewable UK chief executive Maria McCaffery said: “We’re delighted to increase the range of marine technologies that Renewable UK represents by wholeheartedly embracing tidal lagoon energy.
“This is an exciting time for the dynamic marine sector, as Tidal Lagoon Power is set to achieve a global first in Swansea Bay.”
The organisation has covered wave and tidal energy since 2004, and the newly extended remit was announced at Renewable UK Cymru’s annual conference in Cardiff.
