Rolls-Royce plan to deploy small modular reactors (SMRs) in the UK has taken a step forward after clearing the first phase of a rigorous design assessment. The Environment Agency, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) have cleared Rolls-Royce’s 470MW SMR design to progress to the next phase of the Generic Design Assessment process.
