The Scottish government is providing a £15 million fund to help develop deep-water foundations for offshore wind turbines.
The Scottish Innovation Foundation Technologies Fund will support the development of prototype foundations which are suitable for use in water deeper than 30 metres.
It is hoped that the fund will help reduce the foundation costs accounting for 16 per cent of the cost of an offshore wind turbine, down to a 9 per cent proportion.
The call for applicants is the first of two, with the second round taking place in spring 2014, and the projects should be ready for deployment in 2015 and 2016.
Offers made under the fund will seek commitment from manufacturers to base European manufacturing operations in Scotland following the development of the prototype foundations.
