Scottish Power has been confirmed as the new supplier for the more than 70,000 customers of recently failed retailers Entice and Orbit Energy.
Announcing the new on Tuesday afternoon, (30 November), Ofgem said Entice’s 5,400 customers were switched to the large supplier two days previously, while Orbit’s 65,000 will be transferred on Wednesday.
The double supplier failure made November 2021 the worst ever month for retailers exiting the market via the supplier of last resort (SoLR) process, with a total of 10 failures.
Since 2016, there have been 48 instances of the SoLR process being used.
In a statement, Scottish Power’s chief executive of UK retail, Andrew Ward, said: “We are committed to protecting our customers and providing them with a safe and sustainable energy service.
“The recent collapse of a number of suppliers shows the need for reform in the energy market to ensure suppliers participating in the sector do so in a way which is fair and transparent for customers.
“Our dedicated team is working tirelessly to make the transition for Entice Energy and Orbit Energy customers as smooth as possible and we will be in touch with our customers soon to discuss next steps but we urge them to be patient while we engage with the company’s administrator.”
