Scottish Power begins generation at updated Coal Clough windfarm

Scottish Power Renewables has begun generating electricity from its Coal Clough windfarm near Burnley, following the recent turbine upgrade which has taken the project's capacity from 9.6MW to 16MW.

A spokesman for Scottish Power was not immediately available to comment on the cost to replace the 24 wind turbines which were installed in 1992, with eight modern turbines.

Three of the turbines have been connected to the grid and are generating electricity, and it is anticipated that all turbines will be commissioned and operational over the next month, a statement from the company said.

Scottish Power Renewables project manager Gerry Gibson said that on-site construction was “progressing well”, and that the company remained on course “to have all of the turbines fully connected by the end of October.
