Scottish Power chief operating officer Keith Anderson has praised the efficiency of the German authorities in enabling parent company Iberdrola to progress with its €1.6 billion Wikinger wind farm. Anderson's comments came the day after he criticised political wrangling over wind subsidies in the UK.
Iberdrola said it was entering the detailed engineering phase of the 400MW project, which would export UK know how to Germany. The firm plans to start construction in 2016.
Giving evidence to the energy and climate change committee yesterday Anderson was highly critical of the delay in confirming UK renewables support levels. He said such delays and rumours of Treasury intervention would damage investor confidence in the UK. Anderson also voiced concern that evidence-based proceses might also be usurped in key elements of electricity market reform, such as setting strike prices for contracts for difference.
While praising the authorities for enabling planning and grid connections with “clarity and speed”, however, Anderson said the firm still sought “further clarification” about incentives post 2017.
