Scottish Power Energy Networks has started a £3.6 million project in Ayr to build a new substation and install new cabling.

Excavation work has begun at the Old Bridge Road site. The firm said when completed it will ease the load on the existing nearby Heathfield Road substation which is running close to capacity.

The work is expected to be completed by the autumn.
