SES announces new CEO

SES Water has announced Ian Cain will replace Anthony Ferrar as chief executive from February.

Ferrar, who has been with the company for 11 years, announced his retirement earlier this year.

Cain is currently chief executive officer of iSupplyEnergy and had previously held the position of managing director of retail and group customer service at Thames Water.

SES Water chairman Jeremy Pelczer said: “The Board and I are delighted to welcome Ian to the company, who brings with him a wealth of experience from the energy and water sector. During the recruitment process I was particularly impressed with Ian’s unwavering focus on the importance of the service we provide to our customers and his respect for our achievements and reputation. I look forward to working with Ian and continuing to ensure we go from strength to strength as we make the most of new opportunities to deliver for our customers, employees and shareholders.”

The chairman added: “I am also pleased to take this public opportunity to thank Anthony for his many years of leadership and commitment and to wish him a long and happy retirement.”

Cain said: “It’s a real privilege to be given the job of leading SES Water at what is a crucial time for water companies across the country. The company’s proposed business plan is the most ambitious in its history and we need to ensure we achieve what we have promised for our customers and continue to set new standards for the industry. I look forward to joining the team in a few weeks’ time and building on all the good work that has led to SES Water’s very positive track record and innovative reputation, proving that a small company can be a leading performer in the industry.”

iSupplyEnergy was acquired in 2017 by Vatenfall as part of the wind energy giant’s plan to expand its northern Europe business.

Ferrar joined the water company in 2008 when it was called Sutton and East Surrey Water after 15 years as the finance director and company secretary of Bournemouth and West Hampshire Water.
