The winners of £2.5 million worth of grants for collaborative water security innovation projects were announced by the Technology Strategy Board today.
Seven schemes have been awarded funds to develop a technology or process to save or recycle at least 1,000 megalitres of water a day.
The projects range from a “drone” to uncover hidden water resources to technology to treat and reuse industrial process water. They are led by Arvia Technology, Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions, Cambrensis, Halcrow Group, KEE Process, Quest UAV and Watershed Associates.
Iain Gray, chief executive of the Technology Strategy Board, said: “The sustainable and secure supply of water is a major challenge for modern societies. This presents innovation opportunities in water for UK businesses, particularly in the export market and for companies in the supply chain. The research and development we are funding will help UK companies improve their access to global water markets.”
This follows the announcement in June of awards totalling £1 million for 10 small and medium sized companies to carry out feasibility studies.
