Severn Trent has successfully trialled an alternative payment method which it says will make paying bills “easier than ever”.

The trial of Mobi-Pay involved sending around 30,000 messages to a select group of customers, encouraging them to pay their bill online by clicking a link.

The water company says it saw around a third of customers opting to pay their bill this way.

It hopes it will reduce the need for an estimated 211,000 paper reminders being issued each year.

Dan Leese, programme director at Severn Trent, said: “We’re passionate about giving our customers the best possible experience, and we’re confident that by using Mobi-Pay we’re making paying bills easier than ever.

“By simply clicking on the text or email reminder, customers just need to validate who they are and can get on with paying the bill and making sure their account is up to date.

“It’s really easy to use and cuts down on the number of paper bills or letters we have to send out.”

Following on from the success of the trial and how well it has been received, Severn Trent says it is looking to get Mobi-Pay in place permanently and available to all its customers.
