Severn Trent customers cut off as extreme weather causes disruption

A number of Severn Trent customers are without water, as severe weather and power outages cause disruption across the region.

The company last night released a statement confirming that storms and flooding were causing it “a lot of problems”.

“We have teams out across the region working hard around the clock to deal with these problems, but in the current conditions it may take us longer than usual to both answer the phone and solve any problems.

“The flooding in many areas is also making it extremely difficult to get to any issues reported,” it said.

According to the company, water supplies in Worcester and Gloucestershire have been particularly affected due to power failures.

Generators have been set up, which have restored the supply to some customers and Severn Trent says it is working to restore supplies to other parts of the network “as quickly as possible”.

Meanwhile, pumps have been deployed in Worcester, Bewdley, Shrewsbury and Ironbridge.

A burst main has also been reported but fallen trees are making it difficult to access it for repair.

A spokesperson for Severn Trent told Utility Week no more details were available as its “priority is to deal with the incidents and keep customers informed”.
